1. Summary

Signing in is optional. Every feature works without an account. If you do sign in with Google, we receive your Google account's e-mail address, name, profile picture link and account ID (see section 5a).
Your cookbook stays on your phone. Favourites, recipes you add or edit, which recipes you have tried, and your settings (units, oven type, text size, theme) are stored on your device. If you sign in, a copy is also synced between your devices end-to-end encrypted: it is locked with a master password only you know, and we cannot read it.
You can delete your account at any time, in the app or by e-mail. See section 7 and perlicom.com/perlichef/delete-account.
The recipe library is downloaded, not personalised. The app fetches the same shared recipe list, photos and videos for everyone. The request carries no account or advertising identifier.
Ads are provided by Google AdMob. The app shows banner ads and occasional full-screen ads. Google collects device identifiers, including the advertising ID, and related data to show and measure ads. In the EU, EEA and UK you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown.
No purchases. PerliChef is free and has no in-app purchases.

2. Who we are

PerliChef is published by Perlicom Systems Limited, a company registered in Ireland under company number 546999 ("we", "us"). For the personal data that we process ourselves (see sections 5, 5a and 6) we are the data controller. Contact: support@perlicom.com.

Google acts as an independent controller for the data its advertising services collect, under Google's own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

3. What stays on your device

Your cookbook. Recipes you favourite, add or edit, which recipes you have tried, and your preferences (measurement system, oven type, serving sizes, text size, theme) are saved in the app's storage on your phone and are removed when you clear the app's storage or uninstall the app. If you are not signed in, they are not uploaded anywhere. If you are signed in, an encrypted copy is synced as described in section 5a.
Timers and cooking mode. Step timers run on the phone. When a timer finishes the phone rings with its alarm sound and vibrates; if the app is in the background it shows a notification instead (only if you allow notifications). Notifications are created on the phone and nothing about them is sent anywhere. While a recipe is open the app keeps the screen switched on. The app does not use the camera, the microphone, your contacts or your location.
Read aloud. When the app reads a step out, it uses your phone's own text-to-speech engine. The text is not sent to us.
Sharing. If you share a recipe or the app, it goes to the app you pick (e-mail, messaging and so on) and is then handled under that app's privacy policy.

4. Data collected by Google AdMob (advertising)

PerliChef is free and shows ads served by Google AdMob. To choose, deliver and measure ads and to prevent ad fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and sends to Google:

device identifiers: the Android advertising ID and the app set ID;
your IP address, from which an approximate location (for example, country or city) is derived. PerliChef does not request GPS or precise location;
ad interactions: which ads were shown, viewed and tapped, and app launches;
diagnostics and crash data from the ads SDK, and basic device and app information (device model, Android version, app version, language).

Consent in the EU, EEA and UK. Before ads load in these regions, the app shows Google's consent message (Google's User Messaging Platform, which follows the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework). If you do not consent to personalised ads, Google shows non-personalised or limited ads, which still use data for purposes such as frequency capping, measurement and fraud prevention. To change your choice later, open PerliChef's Settings > Privacy & ad choices (shown where the consent rules apply), or clear the app's storage (Android Settings > Apps > PerliChef > Storage > Clear storage), after which the consent message is shown again. Clearing storage also deletes your favourites and any recipes you added.

Advertising ID controls. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, at any time in Android Settings (on most phones: Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy > Ads, or Settings > Google > Ads). You can also manage Google ad personalisation at myadcenter.google.com.

5. Other connections the app makes

Recipe library. The app downloads the shared recipe list, recipe photos and recipe videos from our recipe server. A small number of built-in recipe photos are loaded from Wikimedia Commons (upload.wikimedia.org). These requests carry no account, advertising ID or other identifier; like any web request, the server sees your IP address and a standard user-agent, which appear only in short-lived server logs kept for security and troubleshooting.
Fonts. The app may download its typeface from Google Fonts (fonts.gstatic.com) the first time it runs. Google receives your IP address and a standard request, with no identifier from the app.
Update check. Copies of the app installed outside Google Play fetch a small version file from our server to see whether a newer version exists. It carries no identifier. Copies installed from Google Play are updated by Google Play.
Optional usage statistics. Settings contains an option to count which features you use. It is off by default. If you switch it on, the counts are stored only on your phone and are not sent to us or anyone else. Switching it off erases them.

We never receive your contacts, photos, files or location. We receive your recipes, favourites and settings only if you sign in, and then only in encrypted form (section 5a).

5a. The optional account and sync

In Settings > Account & sync you can sign in with Google. You do not have to: the app works fully without it. The account is your Perlicom account, which is shared with other Perlicom apps you sign in to with the same Google account.

From Google, when you sign in: your e-mail address, your name, your profile picture link and your Google account ID. We use them to identify your account and show you which account you are signed in with. We do not receive your Google password or anything else from your Google account.
What syncs, end-to-end encrypted: your favourites, which recipes you have cooked, the recipes you added or edited, and your cooking settings (measurement system, oven type, step text size, auto-advance time and theme). They are encrypted on your phone with a key derived from a master password that you choose and that is never sent to us. Our server stores only the encrypted data and cannot read it. If you forget the master password, we cannot recover the synced copy; the copy on each of your phones is not affected.
What our sync server records to run the account: which of your devices are signed in (a random device ID, the platform, e.g. Android, and the app), when each signed in and last synced, and which Perlicom apps you use with the account. A security log of sign-ins and account changes, which includes IP addresses, is kept for 90 days.
Signing out (Settings or the menu) stops syncing and removes the account from this phone. Your cookbook stays on the phone. You stay signed in between launches until you sign out, even without a connection.

The sync server is operated by us at browser.perlicom.com, on servers run for us by our hosting provider, Hetzner Online GmbH, in data centres in the European Union. Connections are encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).

Retention. Account and synced data are kept until you delete the account (section 7). The account security log is kept for 90 days. Support e-mails are kept while needed to deal with your request and then deleted. Server logs are rotated after a short period. Data collected by Google is retained under Google's policies.

International transfers. Google may process data outside the EEA. Google relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers.

Security. All network connections made by the app use encryption (HTTPS/TLS). Synced cookbook data is additionally end-to-end encrypted, as described in section 5a.

We do not sell your personal data for money.

7. Deleting your data

Your account. In the app, open Settings > Account & sync > Delete account, confirm, and sign in with Google once more to prove it is you. This permanently deletes, from our servers and at once: your account record (e-mail address, name, picture link and Google account ID), everything synced to it, your encryption key material, every signed-in device and session, the record of which apps you used it with, and the account's security log. Because the account is your Perlicom account, this also deletes what other Perlicom apps synced to it. Deleted data leaves our rolling backups within 14 days. The recipes and settings on your phone are not touched. If you have already uninstalled the app, e-mail support@perlicom.com from the account's address with the subject "Delete my account". On your phone. To delete what the app keeps on the phone, clear the app's storage (Android Settings > Apps > PerliChef > Storage > Clear storage) or uninstall the app. To delete the advertising data Google holds, reset or delete your advertising ID as described in section 4. If you have e-mailed us and want that correspondence deleted, write to support@perlicom.com.

8. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU, EEA or UK you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing before the withdrawal). Because we hold almost no data about you, most requests will concern Google: you can exercise them directly through your Google account and Android ad settings, or e-mail us at support@perlicom.com and we will help. We reply within one month.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (www.dataprotection.ie) or with the supervisory authority where you live or work.

9. California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)

In the last 12 months, the following categories of personal information were collected through PerliChef, by Google's ads SDK: identifiers (advertising ID, app set ID, IP address); internet or other electronic network activity (ad views and taps, diagnostics); and approximate geolocation derived from IP address. If you use the optional account, we also collect identifiers (e-mail address, name, Google account ID, device IDs, and IP addresses in the security log) to provide it; your synced cookbook is end-to-end encrypted and unreadable to us. We do not sell or share account data. No sensitive personal information is collected.

Sale and sharing. We do not sell personal information for money. However, because the app uses Google AdMob, the disclosure of identifiers, ad interactions and approximate location to Google for personalised advertising may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising, and may be considered a "sale" under the CCPA's broad definition. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.

Your choices. You can opt out of this sale or sharing by deleting your advertising ID or turning on "opt out of ads personalisation" in your Android ad settings (see section 4), or by e-mailing support@perlicom.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share". You also have the right to know and access, delete and correct your personal information, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we have none). We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. An authorised agent may make a request on your behalf; we may ask for proof of authorisation.

10. Children

PerliChef is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the app and data has been collected about them, contact us at support@perlicom.com and we will help you have it removed.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this page if the app or the law changes, and change the effective date above. If a change materially affects how your data is used, for example a change to what the optional account syncs, we will also tell you in the app or on the Google Play listing before it takes effect.
